Does it teach French from zero?

No. A lab automatises what a lesson already introduced. The first labs are at B1: you should recognise the passé composé and the pronouns le, la, les and y before you start. An A1 course that starts from the first sentence is planned after launch; the pricing page says exactly what exists today.

Do I have to talk to my phone in public?

Accepted Answer

You talk, but not to the phone. There is no microphone and nothing is recorded. Speak under your breath on the train, at normal volume on a walk, loudly in the kitchen. The lab cannot hear you, which is the point: nobody is listening, so nobody is judging.

Which levels are covered?

Today: one B1 lab, Le départ, free and playable without an account. The catalogue grows through beta towards a full B1 level and the free first unit of A1 and A2. The course page lists every published lab, its structures and its length.

Does it work offline?

In the app, yes: download a level and the labs play with the screen locked, on a plane, anywhere. In the browser you need a connection for the first play; the clips are small (a whole lab is about 4 MB) and cached after that.

Why is there no speech recognition?

Because it would slow you down and it would be wrong often enough to teach you the wrong thing. Speech recognition scores you; the lab trains you. You compare your answer with the recorded one yourself, immediately, and repeat it. That comparison is the exercise. The blog explains the decision in full.

How long is a lab?

About fifteen minutes at the normal pace and nineteen at the slow pace, which lengthens the pauses. Six exercises and a dialogue. Do one a day; the daily programme adds a revision block of five minutes once the scheduler is live.

Can I see the text?

The worksheet shows the model of each exercise, never the variations. That is deliberate: reading the answer defeats the drill. There is a show-text-after-answer setting and a no-timer mode in the app for accessibility; both are described on the accessibility page.

What does the free unit include?

The first unit of every level, five labs, free for good. The first lab needs no account at all. An email address saves your progress and unlocks the next four labs of the unit. Payment only appears after the free unit, never before.

How do I cancel?

From the account page in one tap, or from the Lemon Squeezy receipt email. The subscription runs to the end of the paid period and stops. No retention screens, no phone calls.
