Drill · B1 · pron.y

The pronoun y

Tu vas chez le médecin ? — Oui, j'y vais.

Grammar note

Y replaces à + a place (or à + a thing). It sits before the verb: j'y vais, on y va, nous y allons. Never use it for people; that is lui / leur.

From Laboratoire 1, Le départ. 10 variations, about 2 minutes.

Modèle 3 :

Vous allez à la gare ?

Répondez oui :Oui, j'y vais.

Listen to the model, then answer each variation out loud during the pause.

01:59 · audio only · nobody listening

How to do it

Out loud, or it does not count.

  1. Read the model on the sheet once. It is the only text you get.
  2. Press start. The voice says the model, then the first cue.
  3. Answer during the pause, at full voice or under your breath, but with your mouth.
  4. Hear the answer. If yours differed, say the correct one in the repeat pause, matching the voice.
  5. Do it again tomorrow. The structure comes back in later labs at one, three, seven and twenty-one days.
